These are weird times, with many of us stuck indoors on lockdown and the rest of us working hard on the front line. Wellbeing is vital in order to combat feelings of anxiety. Just as importantly, it is important to take care of ourselves and our health. We’ve outlined a few Tay Medispa lockdown wellbeing tips for physical (and mental!) wellbeing that don’t cost the earth during the lockdown.
Drink lemon and ginger hot water
A refreshing, invigorating and detoxifying way to start your day, and a healthy alternative to caffeinated drinks. Ginger is packed full of nutrients, vitamins and minerals to help boost your immune system.
Keep hydrated
The skin is the largest organ, so not only is water vital for your concentration and internal organs; it is essential for the skin too. If you are struggling to get your daily intake of 2-3 litres a day, why don’t you try keeping a tally of how many glasses you are drinking? See if you can increase your intake from the previous day.
Good nutrition/healthy snacks
It is easy to turn to chocolate and crisps when you are spending a lot more time at home. Try berries, apples, cheese, granola, nuts, cucumber/carrots with a houmous dip for a healthy alternative to boost your productivity. Or how about making a smoothie for a quick on the go snack in between your work calls?
Exercise & Fresh air for lockdown wellbeing
Combine your good nutrition with exercise to keep the blood flowing around your body. When you perspire, your body eliminates any toxins, which is ideal for providing the skin with a healthy glow. Take time out (whilst respecting social distancing) whether it is for a walk, run or cycle. Exercise and fresh air are so important for your mental health. We are now advised we can go out to exercise more than once per day, so if you have been missing it, get outside!
Cleansing the skin
Just because you may not be wearing makeup everyday, cleansing the skin AM and PM is still such an important step to follow. It will get rid of any excess oil, dead skin cells, the build-up of impurities and removal of any toxins the skin may have eliminated during the night or day. As many of you will know, we specialise in cosmeceutical skincare products and showcase some fantastic cleansers on our website. Why not take a look here?
Simple routines like skincare can really be really great for lockdown wellbeing, as you’re keeping a routine and taking care of yourself.
Use SPF daily
This is essential even if you are not leaving the house! Studies have shown that HEV light (also known as blue light) is primarily from the sun, but it can also be emitted from the screen on your phones, computers, tablets etc. This can lead to pigmentation, skin damage, ageing and more. UV rays can penetrate through glass, so if your home office desk is near the window, you are still at risk of UV damage. Have your SPF to hand to reapply throughout the day. There are a number of different types of sunscreen, and we have a lot of information on our website.

Take your vitamins
It is important to stay healthy during the lockdown. As we are spending more time indoors, we are being advised to take a Vitamin D supplement. This can also be found in oily fish, eggs, meat, milk. Taking a daily Multivitamin too alongside a balanced diet will increase your energy levels, improve mood, reducing stress and anxiety.
Are your hands dry with all the hand-washing you are doing?
Try mixing some brown sugar and coconut oil together. You could always try it out on your body too in the bath or shower. This is a great natural exfoliator and moisturiser for your skin.
Use of essential oils
Working from home?
Peppermint is the perfect choice for your home office. Rosemary can help to sharpen your mind and help you to focus. Feeling stressed or anxious? Lavender, Rose, Clary Sage or Bergamot have benefits of lowering your stress levels, soothing and relaxing the mind and body.
Feeling under the weather?
Eucalyptus or Lemon work well for cleansing the body with their anti-inflammatory benefits. Essential oils can be used in different ways – inhalation (through a diffuser) or applying to the skin (mixing with a carrier oil e.g. sweet almond oil or grapeseed oil) or putting some drops into your bath.
Please follow guidelines of the specific oils you use
Undiluted oils are too strong to use straight, so you will need to mix them with a carrier oil (see above). PLEASE NOTE: use essential oils with care. If you are pregnant, on medication or have a health condition, please check with your doctor before using essential oils.
Feeling anxious in the midst of the uncertainty?
Try breathing techniques, yoga or meditation. YouTube has some amazing videos for all abilities. Take time for yourself.
