Winter has officially arrived. This means cold temperatures, steaming hot showers, harsh winds and central heating – all things that unfortunately don’t lend themselves to a radiant complexion. Below is our top 5 tips for keeping your skin looking its best during the winter months.
Dr Julia’s top 5 winter skin tips
1. Protect
During the cold winter periods, we all get our hats, scarves and gloves out to protect ourselves from the cold but do you remember to use an SPF to protect your skin? Although the days may be shorter, the sun in winter can be just as damaging to our skin as the sun in summer.
At Tay Medispa, we have a variety of SPF’s available to purchase including the popular ZO Smart Tone, Broad-spectrum sunscreen which has SPF50 while also providing a light tint of colour to the skin’s complexion.
2. Exfoliate
Keep your summer glow throughout the winter months by using an exfoliator in your skincare regime at home. An exfoliator will help to promote the removal of any dead skin cells to prevent clogging your pores and increase circulation. Therefore, creating a clearer, smoother, more even-toned and brighter skin complexion.
At Tay Medispa, we recommend ZO’s Exfoliating polish (£54 for 65g). This contains magnesium crystals and Vitamins A, C, C-ester and E which give extra antioxidant protection to the skin. During the summer, Dr Obaji recommends exfoliating twice weekly but during the colder winter months, it is recommended that you used this product daily for the best results.
3. Hydrate
We all tend to forget to drink as much water during the colder months as we start to enjoy our hot cocoas more!! But it is important for our bodies to gain hydration from the inside, out. Try hot water with lemon. Lemon contains Vitamin C which is great for your skin as it can boost collagen while acting as an antioxidant. It is also known to help with acne skins and prevent the ageing process so get drinking!
4. Avoid Hot Water
Try to avoid hot showers and if you do, not longer than 10 minutes! This can cause dehydration to your skin and strip the natural oils therefore drying your skin out further during the colder months. We recommend you opt for a warm shower, pat your skin dry and then apply your favourite moisturise to your face and body.
5. Treat
Treat your skin to monthly facials during the colder months. We recommend one of our most popular treatments, the iS Clinical Fire & Ice resurfacing peel. This contains a high percentage of glycolic acid to exfoliate and resurface, there is zero downtime and it has proven benefits for all skin types including acne-prone and ageing skins. £85
We also offer ZO’s Skin Brightening Treatment which is an ideal facial for before the party season as it gives the skin a beautiful glow. This treatment includes: a hydrating cleanse, exfoliation to remove surface debris, citric, salicylic and lactic acids to brighten the skin, a detoxifying massage and a skin brightening masque to minimise the production of excess skin pigment and to hydrate the skin. To finish the treatment, antioxidants, co-enzymes and sun protection is applied to stimulate the growth of healthy cells. 50 mins for £85.
